First and foremost, being a woman of color in America means embracing the rich tapestry of my heritage. Being a woman of color is a source of pride, resilience, and strength that shapes my identity.
However, being a woman of color also means facing unique challenges. Systemic racism, discrimination, and prejudice can cast shadows on our paths. We often find ourselves having to prove our worth and competence in professional and academic spaces, overcoming stereotypes and biases that may limit our opportunities. The burden of being both a woman and a person of color can feel heavy at times, as we navigate the intersections of gender and race.
